I have known this boat for years. For as long as I've been going to the B's vacation cabin, I've looked at that thing piled under a thick cover of canvas and tarp under the breezeway. During summertime trips, I would envision it running on Deep Creek, zipping around and drawing everyone's attention.
Once we went down to that bar next to Uno's (I forget its name) and someone had docked their 60's Chris. I don't know what model it was, maybe a Continental? It was wide open aft, with access on all four sides of the engine box. Turquoise and white interior. It wasn't even in all that great condition, but you just don't see them everyday, so I stared at that a while. Then one day the guy a few houses down from the cabin had an old Chris in the water. Mikey and I waded over to look at it. The guy was really proud of it. It was cool, though he had done a bit of a hatchet job on the restoration. Can't fault the guy because he had it in the water.
So I arrived at the cabin today for a little vacation before I finally relocate to P-ville. J and S were there, and somehow while talking with J, the topic of the Chris came up. The question of whether or not I would be interested in buying and restoring the Chris was posed to me. 'Yes' without hesitation.
